Matt Edmondson to co-host Xtra Factor 2011?

The Sun has today published a story claiming Matt Edmondson has been chosen as the new presenter of ITV2’s X Factor spin off ‘The Xtra Factor‘.  They claim he will host alongside a co-presenter, who is rumoured to either be Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud, Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays, X Factor alumni Stacey Solomon or I’m a Celeb’s Caroline Flack.

We’re really hoping this one is true – Matt is a fantastic presenter and would be a perfect fit for the show.  We’ve been a fan of his since he ran an X Factor video diary on Youtube during the 2009 series.  The short videos were a weekly round up of the show and the format was sort of a funnier, edgier Harry Hill’s TV Burp.  The X Factor producers clearly saw his potential and for the 2010 series he was given his own fan series on the ITV website called The F Factor.  He also popped up on the Xtra Factor show on occasion – where his natural charm and quick wit were a welcome relief from Konnie Huq’s god awful attempts at presenting.

No comment from Matt yet on Twitter as to whether or not the rumours are true, but the official announcements from ITV on the final judging and presenting panels for the 2011 series are apparently ‘coming soon’ so we are keeping our fingers crossed that Matt’s in!

In the meantime you can catch Matt on the radio every Wednesday night at 9pm on Radio1 (weekly podcast also available from on the Radio1 website), or entertaining hungover students on T4 at the weekends.
